Otto Frederick Warmbier, 21, was arrested in January as he was about to board a plane on his way home from Pyongyang, where he had taken a trip organized by the China-based travel company Young Pioneer Tours. The North Korean government charged Warmbier with committing a hostile act against the state—specifically, taking down a political slogan from his hotel. At his trial in mid-March, Warmbier begged for clemency. Longtime diplomat and former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Ohio Gov. John Kasich are reportedly lobbying for his release.
