BoA to Pay Mortgage Investors Record $500M Settlement

Bank of America last week agreed to pay investors who claim they were misled into buying risky mortgage debt $500 million—the most ever paid to settle a federal class action over mortgage-backed securities, Reuters reports.


‘Gay Conversion’ Therapy Ban Hits Appeals Court

A federal appeals court in San Francisco last week heard arguments over the constitutionality of a California law barring therapists from trying to change the sexual orientation of people younger than 18, the New York Times reports.


Securities Class Actions at Lowest Levels Since 2009

A report by PricewaterhouseCoopers shows that in 2012 there were only 172 securities class actions filed, the fewest filed in any year since 2009.
