Roberts' Dissent on Gay Marriage Inspires Montana Man to Apply to Legally Marry Second Wife

Inspired by Justice Roberts’s dissent in the Supreme Court case that made gay marriages legal nationwide, a Montana man applied for a marriage license to wed a second wife. So reports the Associated Press.

The application is being reviewed by Kevin Gillen, the chief civil litigator in the town where the man, 46-year-old Nathan Collier, resides. Gillen promises Collier a response, but says that so far, his review of Montana bigamy laws doesn’t allow for one person to hold more than one marriage license.

Justice Roberts’s dissent states that polygamists could make the same arguments made by the plaintiffs in the gay marriage case, Obergefell v. Hodges—namely that disallowing a homosexual partner’s right to legally marry disrespects that individual.
