Man Gets Up to 40 Years in Prison for Sending Romantic Rival Poisonous Card

A Pennsylvania man who sent a birthday card laced with the deadly poison Ricin to his ex-girlfriend’s new beau has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison. So reports NBC News.

The man, 20-year-old Nicholas Helman, pleaded guilty to several crimes, including attempted murder, attempted aggravated assault, and risking a catastrophe. His intended victim remains unharmed, thanks to authorities who stopped him from opening the card after they were tipped off to the crime by Helman’s co-worker, to whom Helman had divulged his plot.
