Lower-Income Lawyers Are Happiest in the Profession: Survey

Lawyers occupying typically low paying jobs, such as public defenders, are more likely than other members of the profession to report that they are happy. That's according to a survey of 6,200 attorneys. So reports The New York Times.

Public-service jobs are more likely to give the lawyers who fill those positions the three components that make up one psychological model of human happiness: feelings of competence, autonomy and connection to others. The study also found that lawyers are more likely than non-lawyers to struggle with substance abuse problems and depression.
