Supreme Court: Fla. Law Restricting Judicial Fundraising Stands

The U.S Supreme Court has held that Florida's Canon 7C(1), a rule preventing judicial candidates from personally soliciting campaign funds, does not violate the First Amendment. So reports CNN.

The rule is intended to keep candidates for judicial office impartial. Thirty of the 39 states that use elections as opposed to appointments to select some judges limit the way candidates can fundraise. The suit before the Supreme Court was filed by a judicial candidate who was disciplined by the Florida State bar for signing and mass mailing a letter requesting campaign funds.
