Hooters to Pay $250k to Black Waitress Fired Because of Her Blond Hair

A woman who worked as a Hooter’s waitress has secured a $250,000 judgment against the restaurant chain for terminating her because of her hair color. So reports The New York Daily News.

The Maryland arbitrator who decided the case held that the hair color policy that resulted in 26-year-old Farryn Johnson’s dismissal is “vague and subjective.” Pursuant to an “image policy” that prohibits Hooters Girls from having hair that’s colored “more than two-shades in variance” from a natural color, a Hooter’s manager told Johnson that she had six weeks to get rid of the blonde highlights she got while working at the restaurant and was dismissed when she didn’t comply.
