Strict Sex-Offender Laws Challenged in Several States

A married mother of three is challenging the Virginia law that makes it illegal for her to enter school property or attend church services without seeking permission because of a sexual affair she had with a 16-year-old male 15 years ago. So reports the Associated Press.

Virginia is one of dozens of states that have bolstered their sex offender laws in recent years, raising concerns that people convicted long ago and considered at low risk of re-offending will be punished disproportionately for their crimes. Courts in Georgia and Ohio have ruled that sex offender laws in those states went too far.
