Legalized Sports Betting Pitched as Budget Fix in California

A pair of California lawmakers are proposing legalized sports betting as a way to help California recover from the economic devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic. So reports MarketWatch.

Bill Dodd and Assemblyman Adam Gray are pushing for a constitutional amendment on the upcoming fall ballot to allow horse tracks and Vegas-style casinos operated by American Indian tribes to allow sports betting on location and via mobile devices. Twenty-two states have legalized sports betting in the wake of a 2018 Supreme Court case that invalided a federal law prohibiting it outside Nevada.
