Dishwasher Wins $21M in Religious Rights Dispute

Marie Jean Pierre, who was a hotel dishwasher in Miami, sued Park Hotels & Resorts—once known as Hilton Worldwide—and was awarded $21.5 million after alleging her religious rights were violated. So reports NBC News.

A punitive damages cap, however, will prevent her from collecting the full award. Pierre, a Catholic missionary, said her employer continually scheduled her to work on Sunday and then fired her.

She was also awarded back wages totaling $35,000 and $500,000 for “emotional pain and mental anguish.”
