Florida Supreme Court Rules Cops Can Use ‘Stand Your Ground’ Defense

After a 7-0 Florida Supreme Court rulings, law enforcement officers will be allowed to use the state’s “stand your ground” law to shield them from criminal prosecutions in certain instances where deadly force was used. So reports The Star Tribune.

The ruling comes on the heels of a manslaughter charge levied against Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Peter Peraza. Peraza shot and killed Jermaine McBean in 2013. McBean was carrying “what turned out to be an air rifle,” according to the article. His family is planning to bring a federal civil rights suit against Peraza.
