First of Its Kind Calif. Law Aimed at Gender Diversity on Boards

Publicly traded firms based in California are required to have at least one woman on their board of directors by 2019. So reports CNN.

The law also calls for companies with five directors to have two women on their boards by the close of 2021 and companies with six or more directors to have three women.

California state Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson said one-fourth of publically traded companies in the state do not have any women serving on their board of directors. While common in Europe, this is the first such law in America.
