Iowa’s ‘Heartbeat’ Bill Likely to Face Legal Challenges

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed the nation’s strictest abortion regulation, likely setting up a legal battle with pro-choice groups. So reports Syracuse.com

The bill bans most abortions if a fetal heartbeat can be detected, or if a woman is approximately six weeks pregnant. Recently, Mississippi enacted a law banning abortions after 15 weeks, but it's under court review.

The Iowa law allows for later-term abortions to save a life and in certain cases of incest and rape. A federal appeals court struck down similar legislation in other states, but some say more conservative appointments by President Donald Trump could yield different results.
