Lance Armstrong Settles U.S. Postal Service PED Fraud Claim

Former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong will pay $5 million to the federal government to settle allegations he defrauded taxpayers by accepting U.S. Postal Service sponsorship money while using performance enhancing drugs. So reports National Public Radio (NPR).

The allegations could have resulted in close to a $100 million penalty. The plaintiffs said Armstrong benefited from false statements he made about doping and, as such, hurt the government agency that spent millions to sponsor him.

Armstrong’s former teammate Floyd Landis will receive nearly $1.1 million for his role as a whistleblower.
