Judge Rejects Dismissal in Senator Menendez' Corruption Trial

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey will face 18 counts of corruption despite seeking an early acquittal based on a recent Supreme Court case narrowing the definition of bribery. So reports The New York Post.

Menendez is accused of accepting paid trips and private flights from a wealthy eye doctor in exchange for help with an $8.9 million Medicare bill and obtaining visas for the Senator’s girlfriends. In order to be found guilty of bribery, politicians must be shown to have taken “official action,” such as pushing legislation, in exchange for political favors.
