Settlement: $151M to Be Directed at L.A. Schools Serving Low Income Students

The Los Angeles Unified School District will send $151 million to 50 schools in order to settle a lawsuit regarding how the school system spends money. So reports the LA Times.

The money will be disbursed over three years and will be directed toward schools in “low-income neighborhoods.” The 2015 lawsuit filed by Community Coalition and Reyna Frias, a parent in East L.A., alleged the district misspent $450 million per year.

The suit alleged the district wrongly used money for general operations that has been set aside for targeted students. The money will likely benefit students from low-income families, those in foster care and English learners.
