Broward County medical examiner Dr. Ronald Wright testified Marquinez may have died from "asphyxiation.” The defense argued the cause of death was undetermined, though, while prosecutors questioned why Patterson did not call 911 after Marquinez died.
Prior to the trial, the defense filed a motion seeking to allow the jury to see Patterson’s penis “to prove the ‘rough sex’ argument,” but the motion was denied.
