Target to Pay $18.5M in Data-breach Settlement

Retailer Target will pay $18.5 million after settling with 47 states regarding a 2013 data breach. So reports The New York Daily News.

Target will also improve its cybersecurity systems as part of the agreement. The store is required to install a “comprehensive information security program” as well as hire a third-party vendor to conduct an assessment, among other measures.

The breach impacted more than 41 million customer accounts and exposed the contact information of 60 million customers. “The settlement is believed to be the largest multi-state data breach settlement in history,” the article reads.
