Texas Poised to Pass School Bathroom Bill

A "bathroom bill" that would direct transgender public school students to use “separate, single-occupancy restrooms” is poised to pass the Texas Legislature. So reports the Associated Press.

Both chambers of the Texas Legislature are controlled by Republicans.

A broader proposal requiring nearly all transgender people use public restrooms in line with the gender on their birth certificate recently passed in the Texas state Senate, but was initially stalled in the House before being attached to a separate, unrelated bill last week.

Some groups, like the NCAA, have suggested boycotting states that enact laws limiting the bathroom choices of transgendered students.
