Approximately 380 claims were made after same-sex partners of the stores’ employees were unable to get health insurance from 2011-2013. Store associate Jacqueline Cote, of Massachusetts, said she was denied medical insurance for her wife, sparking the case. Cote was represented by GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders, the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights & Urban Affairs and “private law firms.”
