Judge Refuses to Hear Any Same-sex Adoption Cases

W. Mitchell Nance, a Family Court judge in Kentucky, recused himself from cases involving adoption by homosexual parents, citing his inability to be unbiased. So reports The New York Times.

Nance said “as a matter of conscience” he would not be able to be impartial because he believed “under no circumstance” would a child’s best interests be served if adopted by a “practicing homosexual.”

Some LGBT advocates were alarmed by Nance’s comments and questioned his ability to perform the rest of his duties. Cases involving lesbian and gay parents will instead be heard by John T. Alexander.
