Restaurant, Event Communities Join ‘Emoluments’ Case Against Trump

The Restaurant Opportunities Centers United and event booker Jill Phaneuf have joined a lawsuit calling for President Donald Trump to be impeached for his hotel and restaurant business dealings with foreign officials. So reports The New York Daily News.

The suit, initially brought by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, said “Trump's refusal to rescind ownership of his sprawling business empire poses a violation of the Constitution's so-called ‘emoluments clause,’ which bars sitting Presidents from accepting compensation or titles from foreign governments,” the article reads.

Critics are skeptical that CREW has standing in the case, as it would be difficult to show they have suffered damages as a result of Trump’s business dealings. Presumably, those in the restaurant community have joined the suit to address that issue of standing, as they claim the entire industry is impacted if foreign officials feel compelled to choose a Trump establishment over their own.
