Salvation Army, NY Real Estate Developer Reach $227M Settlement After Building Collapse

The Salvation Army and real estate speculator Richard Basciano reached a record breaking $227 million settlement following civil suits related to the 2013 Center City building collapse. So reports Philly.com.

The 17-week civil trial was the longest in Philadelphia court history and featured the largest personal injury settlement in Pennsylvania state court history, according to reports. The money will be split among the families of the seven people who died and 12 injured as a result of the collapse.

The building crushed a Salvation Army store during its demolition. An unnamed source said they expect $200 million of the settlement will come from the Salvation Army and $27 million from Basciano. Demolition contractor Griffin Campbell and his excavator operator Sean Benschop are serving prison terms as a result of the incident.
