Trump Facing Lawsuit Over ‘Emoluments’ Clause

Watchdog organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s purported conflicts of interest. So reports Syracuse.com.

The lawsuit, which was filed in the Southern District of New York, alleges that Trump’s real estate and business interests may impact decisions he makes in the Oval Office. The group is represented in part by former White House chief ethics lawyers Norman Eisen and Richard Painter.

Representatives for Trump said he has not violated the Constitution’s emoluments clause, as it was not intended to ban “fair-value exchanges,” such as paying a hotel bill.
