Prosecutors Seek Amazon’s Help Getting Murder Evidenced from Echo Device

Arkansas prosecutors are pressing Amazon for information gathered from its Echo device that they believe may be relevant in a murder trial. So reports the ABC News.

The data is stored on the device belonging to defendant James Bates, who is charged with the murder of Victor Collins. The victim was found in a hot tub at the home of Bates, who was supposedly his friend.

The Amazon Echo device has speakers and a microphone and responds voice commands or questions after being activated with the word "Alexa." Users may review past voice interactions stored in the device's settings.

Amazon resisted releasing the information without “a valid and binding legal demand properly served on us," according to the article.
