Alleged ISIS Defector Charged with Conspiracy, Supporting Terror

Mohamad Jamal Khweis, a supposed ISIS defector, was indicted for aiding a terrorist organization months after apparently being captured by Kurds while in Iraq. So reports NBC News.

Khweis has been held without bail since his return to the United States and faces charges of “conspiracy and providing material support to ISIS,” according to the article.

An American born of Palestinian immigrants, Khweis said he was vacationing in Europe last winter. However, he apparently fled ISIS after making “a bad decision” to follow a woman to Mosul.

According to court papers, Khweis told authorities he had researched ISIS months before his trip and was aware the terrorist group wants to destroy America. The circumstances surrounding those statements, though, could become a point of contention during his trial.
