Bomber Rahami's Defense Lawyers Unhappy with Slowness of Feds

Defense attorneys for bombing suspect Ahmad Rahami wrote a letter to federal magistrate judge Gabriel Gorenstein requesting New York and New Jersey promptly read him any federal charges as well as formally advise him of his right to remain silent and his right to counsel. So reports Politico.

However, prosecutors from the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York claim that since Rahami is not in federal custody, there is no obligation for federal courts to be involved. Prosecutors said Rahami is not entitled to any rights in the federal system at this time, such as a right to counsel. Rahami faces five attempted murder charges in New Jersey in connection with a shootout with police. It is unclear if he has been read his Miranda Rights.
