Administration Insiders Shortlist Five Likely Supreme Court Nominees

On the condition of anonymity, people close to the Obama administration have shortlisted five sitting federal judges whom the President is likely to nominate to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Scalia’s death. So reports the Washington Post.

Among the five are:

  • Sri Srinivasan, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit
  • Patricia A. Millett, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit
  • Jane L. Kelly, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit
  • Paul J. Watford, California-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit
  • Ketanji Brown Jackson, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia

The judges named in the article each possess a distinctive attribute that would make the Court more diverse. Each of the named potential candidates was also confirmed with bipartisan support during the President’s tenure, and possesses an opaque ideological viewpoint—characteristics that are important in light of “the current climate of acrid partisanship.”
